Why would a buyer use cryptocurrency?
Paying with cryptocurrency offers a unique set of advantages over other payment methods, including avoiding the hurdles and paperwork associated with a mortgage-funded sale, and removing costs associated with traditional banking fees.
How does it work?
This is not a wallet-to-wallet transaction. The process is like a standard cash real estate transaction. The buyer will work with Harbor’s real estate broker to write a purchase and sale agreement based on U.S. Dollars. Once the agreement has been mutually accepted, the contract will be sent to Harbor’s Escrow partner where the process for converting the digital currency funds into U.S. Dollars will begin. Once the transfer of funds is complete, Escrow confirms the recording, the funds are wired to the seller in U.S. Dollars, and the property and title are transferred to the buyer.
Are there fees?
There are fees associated with a cryptocurrency transaction. The fees and anticipated closing timeframe are specific to each transaction and based in part on the transaction size. Our escrow partner will provide detailed costs upon request.
How quickly can I close escrow?
The anticipated closing time period is specific to each transaction. If the project is completed, a buyer can anticipate the following approximate timeframes:
  • Less than $1 million transaction = 10 to 30 days
  • More than $1 million transaction = 30 to 45 days
